Samsung Display is set to initiate the production of Apple iPad OLED this week, with a specific focus on the production of Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon (LTPO) Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) for Apple’s 11-inch OLED iPad. The TFT serves a crucial role as a switch, facilitating the activation and deactivation of individual OLED pixels.
Preceding Samsung Display, LG Display had recently commenced the production of a TFT variant for the 13-inch iPad OLED. It is anticipated that LG Display will also start manufacturing 11-inch iPad OLED TFT around the same timeframe as Samsung Display.
The OLED iPad lineup, making its debut from Apple this year, comprises two variants: 13 inches and 11 inches. LG Display is responsible for producing panels for both the 13-inch and 11-inch models, while Samsung Display exclusively handles the production of the 11-inch model.
Despite the imminent production of iPad OLEDs by Samsung Display, the industry is closely monitoring variables such as production yield and manufacturing costs, which could significantly impact the performance of both Samsung and LG. Given that this marks Apple’s inaugural foray into mass production of iPad OLEDs, the stability of production yield remains a concern.
