Netflix Expanding Gaming Experience: Soon Available on PCs and Smart TVs

Netflix is set to elevate its user experience by enabling subscribers to play games directly from their PCs and smart TVs. While Netflix introduced gaming to its platform in 2021, gamers have predominantly engaged with games via Android and iOS apps. However, the streaming giant is now embarking on a transformative journey, making it possible for users to access and play games on larger screens.

The company recently announced that it’s testing a novel approach, allowing subscribers to play games on their smart TVs and PCs through web browsers. As part of this testing phase, select Netflix subscribers can start enjoying gaming on their TVs from today. Facilitating this innovation, Netflix is harnessing a tool that’s already in the hands of most individuals throughout the day – their smartphones. This implies that users will employ their smartphones as controllers to play games on their TVs.

For TV gaming, the initial range of devices includes Amazon Fire TV Streaming Media Players, Chromecast with Google TV, LG TVs, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku devices and TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, and Walmart ONN. The company intends to gradually introduce more compatible devices over time.

Meanwhile, Windows PCs and Mac users will soon be able to partake in gaming directly through Netflix.com on supported web browsers. While specific browser details weren’t provided, Netflix mentioned that PC and Mac users can engage with games using conventional peripherals like keyboards and mice.

During this testing phase, Netflix is unveiling two games for its subscribers to explore. The first is “Oxenfree” from Night School Studio, a Netflix Game Studio. The second is “Molehew’s Mining Adventure,” a gem-mining arcade game.

Initially, Netflix is rolling out gaming support for TVs and PCs to a limited number of beta users in Canada and the UK. The company has plans to extend this feature’s availability to more regions in the coming months.

In a blog post, the company expressed its eagerness to bring joy to its members through gaming. While the journey is in its infancy, Netflix anticipates constructive feedback from beta testers, promising to reveal more as they navigate this exciting new path. As Netflix expands its offerings into the gaming sphere, subscribers can look forward to an even richer and more immersive entertainment experience.
