Google Drive, a popular cloud storage application, has introduced a new feature for iPhone users, allowing them to scan and save documents directly to their cloud storage. While some users have faced recent challenges with storage loss, this update brings a positive note for those seeking enhanced productivity on the go.
If you are a Google Drive user who has not encountered any storage issues, you can take advantage of the new document-scanning feature. Already available on Android and recently redesigned, the functionality has now been extended to iPhone users.
To access this feature, users can locate the new camera button positioned above the familiar “+” button in the lower right corner. Alternatively, you can start a scan from the Google Drive home page by tapping the “+” sign and selecting the Scan option. Both pathways lead you to the iPhone’s camera, streamlining the document-scanning process.
Initiating a scan follows a straightforward process. Simply position the document or receipt in view of the camera and capture the photo. The app allows users to capture multiple images for documents with more than one page, providing flexibility and convenience.
After capturing the photo, users can perform standard edits, including cropping, rotating, and adjusting colors. These features are particularly useful for ensuring the scanned document meets your preferences.
Upon completion, pressing the Save button prompts Google Drive to employ machine learning to suggest a relevant title for the saved images, creating a new PDF file. This time-saving and organizational feature enhances the user experience, making it easier to locate and retrieve scanned documents in the future.
It’s important to note that while the iPhone already offers a built-in document scanner feature within the Notes app, Google Drive provides an alternative for users who prefer scanning documents directly into Google’s cloud storage.
The rollout of this feature is expected to reach all Google Drive users soon. To ensure access, users are advised to update the app to the latest version.
