Apple Halts iOS 17.3 Beta 2 Release Amidst Boot Loop Reports

Apple has swiftly withdrawn the second betas of iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3, just three hours after their initial release, following reports of a boot loop issue that left some iPhone users with malfunctioning devices.

Boot Loop Bug and User Impact

Reports surfaced on MacRumors that iPhone owners who installed the iOS 17.3 beta 2 found their devices stuck in a boot loop, prompting Apple to take immediate action. The beta updates have been removed from the Developer Centre and over-the-air downloads to prevent further disruptions.

According to some users, the boot loop issue may be linked to the Back Tap setting, with several affected individuals reporting that they had Back Tap enabled in some capacity. Developer Guilherme Rambo noted in a log that a Back Tap setting caused his device to crash.

Apple’s Response and Resolution

Apple is expected to re-release the beta updates once the identified bug is thoroughly addressed. The company has a history of swiftly responding to software issues to maintain the integrity of user experiences.

Additional Connectivity Woes for iPhone Users

In addition to the iOS 17.3 beta 2 withdrawal, iPhone users globally are reportedly facing cellular connectivity issues after updating to iOS 17.2.1. While this update addressed a battery drain problem, users have expressed frustrations with network connectivity problems.

A user on Apple’s Support Community Discussions website shared their troubles, stating, “After updating my iPhone last night to 17.2.1, I can no longer connect to my network provider. Tried the resets and still it does not work! Very frustrating. Trusted Apple and iPhone for years, now not so sure.”
