Neil Mulye emerged as the star of the Dr. Pramod Mulay Memorial Pune District Table Tennis Championship 2023, securing a remarkable triple crown. The championship, hosted by the PYC Hindu Gymkhana and conducted under the patronage of the Pune District Table Tennis Association, unfolded at the Table Tennis Hall of PYC Hindu Gymkhana.
Mulye’s exceptional performance saw him clinch titles in three categories. Having previously triumphed in the Under 17 and Under 19 divisions, he added the Men’s Singles title to his impressive haul. A commerce student in the 11th standard at Dr. Kalmadi High School, Neil Mulye, who was seeded seventh in the event, exhibited outstanding skills and determination throughout the tournament.
In a thrilling final showdown, Mulye upset the top seed, Aditya Jori, with a scoreline of 11-09, 12-10, 11-06, 11-08 to secure the Men’s Singles title, adding to his already impressive collection of victories.
Radhika Sakpal, an 11th standard science student from Ashoka Vidyalaya, asserted her dominance by clinching the Women’s Singles title. She outplayed Saee Kulkarni with a convincing score of 12-10, 11-05, 11-05, 11-06.
The championship also witnessed notable performances in other categories. Shouren Soman and Ruchita Dharwatkar claimed victory in the Boys and Girls Under 15 categories, while Shreyas Mankeshwar and Aadya Gavatre emerged as champions in the Boys and Girls Under 13 divisions. Additionally, Onkar Jog claimed the title in the 40-plus seniors’ event.
The awards ceremony was graced by distinguished individuals from the world of table tennis, including Dr. Vidya Mulye, Mr. Sarang Lagu, Secretary of PYC Hindu Gymkhana, Mr. Tanmay Agashe, Table Tennis Secretary of PYC, Smita Bodas, VP of PDTTA, Mr. Shriram Konkar, Secretary PDTTA, along with the presence of Avinash Joshi, Deepesh Abhyankar, and Rahul Pathak.
