Sri Lanka Trolls Bangladesh: Receives Trophy in Practice Kits After Dominant Test Series Victory

“Clean Sweep Culminates in Unconventional Trophy Ceremony, Sending a Playful Message to Hosts”

Sri Lanka concluded their Test series against Bangladesh with a flourish, securing victory in both matches and clinching the series with a clean sweep. The second Test, held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on March 30, witnessed Sri Lanka’s dominant performance, followed by a light-hearted moment during the trophy presentation ceremony that grabbed headlines.

As Sri Lanka’s team gathered for the post-match presentation to receive the series trophy, they sportingly appeared in their practice kits, playfully mocking the notion that the series matches were merely warm-up games against Bangladesh.

The exceptional performance by Sri Lanka in the second Test was emblematic of their dominance throughout the series. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka capitalized on their opportunity, with Nishan Madushka and Dimuth Karunaratne laying a solid foundation by scoring 57 and 86 runs, respectively. Subsequent outstanding innings by Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis propelled Sri Lanka to a commanding total of 531 runs in their first innings.

In reply, Bangladesh struggled against Sri Lanka’s formidable bowling attack, managing only 178 runs in their first innings, with Asitha Fernando leading the charge with four crucial wickets.

With a substantial lead in hand, Sri Lanka declared their second innings at 157 runs, setting Bangladesh a daunting target of 511 runs to level the series. Despite a valiant effort by Bangladesh’s batsmen, notably Mominul Haque and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who scored 50 and 81 runs respectively, the hosts fell short, ultimately being bowled out for 318 runs.

The convincing 192-run victory in the second Test sealed Sri Lanka’s dominance in the series, underscoring their superiority in both batting and bowling departments.
