Bell, Fleming, and Saqlain Join New Zealand Coaching Group for Away Tours

New Zealand’s cricket coaching setup is set to receive a boost with the addition of former England batter Ian Bell, ex-New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming, and former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq for short-term coaching roles during upcoming away tours.

Ian Bell, a former England cricketer who has transitioned into coaching since 2020, will take on the role of assistant coach for the T20I series against England, starting on August 30. He will also step into Luke Ronchi’s position as the batting coach for the ODIs against England and Bangladesh in the lead-up to the World Cup.

Chennai Super Kings’ head coach, Stephen Fleming, will make his second stint as a coach in the New Zealand setup during the ODIs against England. Meanwhile, former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq will join the coaching staff during the Test series in Bangladesh following the World Cup.

Additionally, former England keeper-bat James Foster will serve as an assistant coach for the England ODIs as well as the World Cup.

Notably, head coach Gary Stead will take a short break during the Bangladesh ODIs just before the World Cup. He will also miss the Tests immediately after the World Cup to prepare for New Zealand’s home summer. During Stead’s absence, Luke Ronchi will take on the role of designated head coach.

He expressed the necessity of providing adequate rest to players and staff to ensure their overall health and performance.
