Rohit Sharma Asserts Focus on Cricket, Snaps at Journalist’s Question

Rohit Sharma Firmly Addresses Journalist’s Question During ODI World Cup Squad Announcement

India’s cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, displayed his assertiveness during a press conference held on Tuesday, September 5, while announcing the squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023. Sharma, who was joined by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, didn’t hold back when responding to a question from a journalist concerning the public perception of the Indian cricket team during world tournaments.

The journalist’s question revolved around how the team deals with the external pressure and expectations when playing in global competitions. Sharma’s response was unequivocal and reflected his no-nonsense approach.

“I have said this so many times. We don’t care what happens on the outside. All the players in our team are professionals. Don’t ask me such questions. I won’t entertain such questions. It doesn’t make sense to talk about such things. Our focus is something else, and we do not care about these things,” Sharma firmly stated.

Sharma’s reaction underscores the team’s unwavering dedication and focus on their performance on the field, regardless of the external noise and pressure that often accompanies high-profile tournaments.

As for the ODI World Cup squad selection, India made few surprises, largely sticking with the team that performed well in the Asia Cup. However, two players, Prasidh Krishna and Tilak Varma, were not included in the final 15-member squad.

Sharma acknowledged that while the selection process can be challenging, the team had opted for the best possible combination of players. He emphasized that creating batting depth was a priority, highlighting the importance of lower-order batsmen contributing crucial runs in tight matches.

“The problem of plenty is a good problem to have. We have to see who is in form and who our opposition is. We need to see what the best possible combination could be. If someone misses out, then so be it. This keeps happening. You have to make tough calls for the team,” Sharma explained.

Sharma also stressed the importance of bowlers who can contribute with the bat, as they can make a significant difference in the later stages of an innings. He emphasized the need for flexibility in the bowling unit, with an understanding that spinners may not always bowl their full quota of 20 overs depending on the conditions.

In conclusion, Rohit Sharma’s unwavering focus on the team’s performance and his resolute response to the journalist’s question serve as a testament to the Indian cricket team’s professionalism and determination as they prepare for the ODI World Cup in 2023.
