Masters Badminton Singh & Kaur Tournament 2023: A Celebration of Talent and Unity

Pune, 21st August 2023 – The third edition of the Masters Badminton Singh & Kaur Tournament concluded as a resounding success, uniting badminton veterans from across the nation for a dazzling display of skill and camaraderie. Held at the prestigious Sanas Sports Complex, the event was a collaborative effort by Sikh Helpline Foundation, Stackera, VRLab Technologies, SICCA Automation, Rolls Mania, and RedDevil. With over 100 participants from cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, Shrirampur, Indore, and the Sindhi and Punjabi communities, the tournament showcased a rich tapestry of diversity.

The competition comprised five exciting categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Following a round-robin format, each category witnessed intense battles with several matches coming down to the wire. The victorious moments were as follows:

  • Men’s Singles: Sumit Singh (Team A – Blue) emerged victorious over Rajwant Singh (Team B – Orange) with a score of 21-19, 21-18.
  • Women’s Singles: Gurnoor Kaur (Team C – Red) triumphed after a nail-biting encounter against Jasman Kaur (Team D – Yellow), with a scoreline of 21-17, 18-21, 21-15.
  • Men’s Doubles: Harjas Singh and Kashish (Team E – Grey) displayed dominance, defeating Heero Motwani and Pawan Chandbhanani (Team F – Black) with a commanding score of 21-16, 21-14.

Chief Organizer Mr. Raj Singh, a prominent badminton player and social activist associated with Sikh Helpline, played a pivotal role in the event’s success. He was backed by a dedicated organizing team, including individuals like Ajay Raval, Shekhar Yadav, Sandeep Dangi, and Darshan Desai from the Sanas Sports Team.

Distinguished guest Shri Tara Singh, a former Scientist from DRDO, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. His active participation at the age of 66 highlighted the tournament’s role in promoting badminton among seniors. The award ceremony, where winners were honored with trophies, medals, certificates, and cash prizes, gained added prestige through his presence.

Special recognition was given to young talents who exhibited exceptional potential. Gurnoor Kaur (11), Jasman Kaur (11), Harjas Singh (13), and Kashish (18) received special trophies and certificates for their outstanding performances.

Beyond the competition, the tournament embodied unity and community spirit. Attendees enjoyed nourishing breakfasts, refreshing fruits, and delectable lunch provided by Ms. Poonam Joshi (Mom and Daughters). The event also featured top-notch medical facilities, cultural performances, and engaging games for children.

The tournament received positive feedback from participants, families, and the media, solidifying its status as a grand success. The organizers expressed their gratitude to sponsors, volunteers, staff, officials, and guests for their unwavering support. Building on this achievement, plans for the fourth edition in 2024 were announced, promising expanded teams and categories at a new venue.
