From Chess to Speed: SG Sports Dives into Supercross Racing with New Franchise

Pune: SG Sports, the driving force behind the SG Alpine Warriors in the Global Chess League, is making an exciting foray into the world of motorsports. APL Apollo-led SG Sports has stepped into the thrilling arena of Indian Supercross Racing by acquiring a franchise in the inaugural edition of the Indian Supercross Racing League.

The newly-formed franchise, named SG Speed Racers, marks SG Sports’ debut in motorsports. The collaboration is forged in partnership with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), underlining the initiation of India’s first-ever franchise-based Supercross Racing League. This league will witness riders from around the world coming together to compete in diverse formats and categories.

Sanjay Gupta, CMD of APL Apollo Tubes Limited, expressed his excitement, saying, “Today marks a thrilling milestone for SG Sports, as we foray into the exciting world of Supercross with the acquisition of a team in the CEAT Indian Supercross Racing League. Our legacy of promoting sports excellence drives and inspires us to develop the supercross scene across the length and breadth of India.”

Gupta further emphasized their vision to nurture a new generation of talented riders who can compete on a global stage. The collaboration with CEAT Indian Supercross Racing League presents a unique opportunity to accelerate the growth of Supercross in India, leaving behind a lasting sporting legacy that resonates worldwide.

Veer Patel, Co-founder and Director of Supercross India Pvt. Ltd, shared his enthusiasm about SG Sports joining the CEAT Indian Supercross Racing League. The inaugural season of the Indian Supercross Racing League is scheduled to kick off in October 2023. Eight franchises, including SG Speed Racers, are gearing up to compete for top honors in this adrenaline-pumping racing league.

Sujith Kumar, Chairman of the Supercross Racing Commission of the FMSCI, welcomed SG Sports’ addition to the Indian Supercross Racing League. He emphasized the alignment of SG Sports’ vision with the mission of Supercross development in the country. Kumar stated, “We extend a warm welcome to SG Sports and eagerly anticipate witnessing their captivating performances on the racing track.”
