15 States, 24 Teams, and One Thrilling Tournament: SNBP All-India Hockey Championship Returns to Pune

The 7th edition of the SNBP All-India Hockey Tournament (Boys’ Under-16) is set to ignite the sporting spirit as 24 teams from 15 different states gear up for an exhilarating competition. This year’s tournament promises to be a remarkable event, with the participation of as many states as the previous edition, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for grassroots hockey.

Since 2016, the S.E Society’s SNBP Group of Institutes has been dedicated to promoting grassroots hockey, and their commitment is unwavering. The total prize money for this year’s tournament matches the previous edition, emphasizing the organizers’ dedication to nurturing young talent.

In addition to the boys’ tournament, the event also features the 5th SNBP All-India Women’s Championship, where eight women’s teams will fiercely compete for the title.

Notably, a substantial amount of Rs. 3.80 lakh has been allocated for these two concurrent tournaments, demonstrating the commitment to nurturing budding talent. The boys’ champion will claim Rs. 1.0 lakh, with the runners-up receiving Rs. 50,000 and the third-place team securing Rs. 30,000. The girls’ section offers a prize of Rs. 75,000 for the winners, Rs. 50,000 for the runners-up, and Rs. 30,000 for the third-placed team.

The boys’ tournament is scheduled to commence at the Shiv Chhatrapathi Sports Complex, Balewadi on October 1st, with the final match slated for October 7th. Simultaneously, the women’s event will kick off on October 4th at the Dr. Dashrat Bhosale Hockey Ground, Chikhli-Moshi, with its final scheduled for October 4th.

The tournament opener will feature an exciting clash between Kolkata Warriors and Bhongor Hockey Academy in Pool-E.

Notably, this tournament holds the distinction of being the only prize-money hockey competition for Under-16 players and is recognized by Hockey India. The 24-team boys’ event has been divided into eight pools, where they will battle it out in the league stage before progressing to the knockout quarterfinals.

Dr. Vrishali Bhosale, Organizing Chairman & President of SNBP Group, expressed her commitment to grassroots hockey, saying, “Supporting grassroots hockey remains the hallmark of our Group. Women’s hockey holds an equal right in our promotion values, and our Group feels strongly about the same. Importantly, we use sport as a platform to empower talent.”

This tournament is the sole event conducted at an all-India level for Under-16 players in the state and city. Teams participating in this edition hail from various regions of India, including North, West, South, and East.

Hosted by SNBP Academy, Pune, this championship boasts a generous prize pool, with the winners receiving Rs. 1,00,000, the runners-up claiming Rs. 75,000, and the third-place finisher securing Rs. 50,000.

The 5th SNBP All-India Women Hockey Tournament, featuring eight teams from Maharashtra, will be played on a knockout basis, adding more excitement to the event. With a mix of academy and school talent, this segment promises thrilling encounters.

Firoz Shaikh, Tournament Convenor, expressed gratitude to Hockey Maharashtra and Hockey India for their support, ensuring the tournament’s success over the years.
