Pune: Maha Yuti-BJP Lok Sabha candidate Murlidhar Mohol has promised to implement Urban Flood Risk Management Plan in the backdrop of the flash floods that have been taking place from the past some years in the city.
He was speaking at the conclusion of a poll rally that passed through Dattawadi, Rajendra Nagar, Senadatta Police Chowky, Navi Peth, Tilak Road, Rambaug Colony, Sane Guruji Nagar, Parvati Gaon, Laxmi Nagar and Satara road areas.
BJP City Unit President Dheeraj Ghate, Hemant Rasne, Saraswati Shendge, Rajendra Kakade, Amit Kank, Prashant Surve, Pranav Ganjiwale, Chandrakant Pote, Sanjay Deshmukh, Chhagan Bulakhe, Raju Pardeshi, Umesh Chavan, Rajabhau Bhilare, Ganesh Bhokare, Nilesh Hande, Hemant Jagtap, Ravi Sane, Kapil Jagtap and Nilesh Dhumal were present.
Mohol said, “Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad have been included in the Centre’s Urban Flood Risk Management Plan. The PMC had submitted a draft plan in this regard to the Centre when I was the mayor. The draft plan has been sanctioned and various flood control works will be taken up across the city. Funds amounting to Rs 250 crore have also been allocated for the purpose.”
He added, “Installing sensors to control floods, setting up CCTV cameras at risk spots, taking rain harvesting measures on hilltops, building culverts, drone-mapping of nullahs, increasing capacity of drainages, sewage management, building Gabion Walls and setting up a command control room are some of the works that will be undertaken. Safety measures will be taken for the residents who were affected by the flooding of Ambil Odha five years ago.”
