NCP (Sharad Pawar group) chief takes swipe at Maha Govt

Mumbai,Aug 29 (UNI) Maharashtra NCP (Sharad Pawar group) president Jayant Patil on Tuesday took a swipe at the BJP-led state government arguing that even as ‘drought-like situation is at our doorstep’, the government is still busy with the ‘government-at-your-doorstep’ programmes.

Taking to microblogging site X, he has put the ruling party on edge over the possible drought-like situation arisen in the state due to below average rainfall.

Even though the month of August has come to an end, the state is staring at drought owing to lack of sufficient rainfall, he said.

While seeking to draw the government’s attention to this situation, Patil said, “Currently, the shadow of drought has darkened due to 23 days of rain in 329 Revenue Circles. Kharif sowing has been wasted in 18 districts of the state, except Konkan. The lowest rainfall has been recorded in Sangli district. There has been 45 per cent less rain than average, as a result, drought-like condition has arisen in many parts of the state.”

“Consequently, kharif crops are under threat, almost 70 per cent of crops have wilted at many places, giving rise to a concern whether farmers will get return on their investments,” he noted.

As most of the kharif crops have been damaged, there is not much production of fodder, causing a huge shortage of fodder for animals, the NCP chief observed.

In such a situation, farmers of the state are worried about saving their livestock, he said.

“Is the government, which is busy with the programmes of ‘government-at-your-doorstep’, even faintly aware that drought-like situation has come and been staring at it,” he asked.
