Pune Traffic police open help desk: Fines of 100 vehicle owners reduced

PUNE: The Traffic Police have started a help desk to deal with pending traffic fine cases, from Monday. On the first day, 100 vehicle owners came to the centre to reduce the fines after a compromise. The help desk will function till September 8.

The Pune District Legal Services Authority had organised a Lok Adalat on September 9. At the Lok Adalat, pending cases are disposed of after a compromise. A major percentage of traffic cases are of pending fines. For reducing the traffic fines and guide vehicle owners, a help desk has been started through an initiative of CP Ritesh Kumar and Joint CP Sandip Karnik. On Monday (Aug 28), 100 vehicle owners came to the help desk to reduce their fines. DCP (Traffic) Vijaykumar Magar has appealed that vehicle owners should be present at Yerawada Traffic DCP office.
The help desk will remain open till September 8. It will function from 11 am to 2 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm. The police are going to make efforts to reduce the fine amount. Vehicle owners will be given a discount in the fine amount. The panel in the court will be present at the help desk.

DCP (Traffic) Vijaykumar Magar said, “A judicial panel will be present at the help desk. The amount of pending dues is huge. Cooperation will be offered to vehicle owners to reduce their fines. Vehicle owners, who had received summons from the court, had come to the help desk. Some vehicle owners approached the desk on their own. Help would be provided to reduce the fine amount of vehicle owners from Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and other cities. After the fine is reduced, the concerned city and district court will be informed.”
