Devendra Fadnavis ‘apologises’ to victims over police lathicharge on Maratha protesters in Jalna

Mumbai, Sep 4 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who holds Home portfolio, on Monday ‘apologised” to the victims over the lathicharge and using teargas shells by the police on protestors during an agitation for Maratha quota in Jalna district on September 1.

“The police action was extremely wrong targeting the protestors, and many were injured, including some women. I seek their forgiveness for it,” said Fadnavis.

Addressing a joint media conference with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar here this afternoon, he deplored the attempts to politicise the ongoing Maratha agitation and the police clampdown on the protestors at Antarvali-Sarati village, in Jalna.

Fadnavis also attacked several former Chief Ministers of different governments for not taking steps to resolve the Maratha reservation issue, and said that the Maratha community will not be misguided by the Opposition narratives.
