British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Expresses Pride in Hindu Identity and Temple Visit Hopes During G20 Summit in India

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, currently on a three-day visit to India to attend the 18th G20 Summit, recently expressed his pride in his Hindu identity and shared his hopes of visiting temples during his stay in the country.

In an interview with news agency ANI, Rishi Sunak openly declared, “I’m a proud Hindu, and that’s how I was raised. That’s how I am.” He also expressed his desire to explore some of India’s temples during his brief visit.

“I’m a proud Hindu, and that’s how I was raised. That’s how I am. Hopefully, I can visit a Mandir while I’m here for the next couple of days,” he said to ANI.

During the interview, Rishi Sunak also touched upon the recent Hindu festivals of Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami, indicating his cultural connections. He mentioned, “We just had Raksha Bandhan, so from my sister and my cousins, I have all my rakhis, and I didn’t have time to celebrate Janmashtami properly the other day. But hopefully, I can make up for that if we visit a Mandir this time.”

Furthermore, the British Prime Minister highlighted the significance of faith in his life, emphasizing how it provides resilience and strength, particularly in high-stress roles like his. He stated, “I think faith is something that helps everybody who has faith in their lives, particularly when you have these stressful jobs like I do. Having faith to give you resilience, to give you strength, is important.”

RISHI SUNAK’S VISIT TO INDIA Rishi Sunak’s visit to India with his wife, Akshata Murty, commenced as they landed at New Delhi’s Palam Airport. They were greeted by Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey with a warm “Jai Siya Ram” welcome. During their arrival, Choubey also presented the Prime Minister and his wife with Rudraksh beads, a copy of the Bhagavad Gita, and the Hanuman Chalisa.

As part of his visit, Rishi Sunak is set to engage in a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The three-day visit includes participation in the 18th G20 Summit and various diplomatic discussions.
