Panchanganga river’s water level rising rapidly in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur

Kolhapur, July 19 (UNI) The water level of Panchanganga river was rapidly rising as heavy rains continued to lash the western parts of Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district on Wednesday.

The affected tehsils included Gaganbavda, Shahuwadi, Radhanagari, Chandgad and Ajara, while showers continued in the catchment areas of all 14 irrigation dams in the district.

The continued heavy rainfall from Tuesday, has resulted in rapid rise in the Panchaganga river’s water level. Total 23 ‘Bandharas’ (weirs) including Rajaram, Survey, Rui, Ichalkaranji, Terwad, Shirol, Shignapur were overflowing, while water level of other rivers including Bhogavati, Kumbhi, Kasari, Tulshi were also increasing fast.

The vehicular traffic movement has been suspended on Kasba bavda-Vadnge-Nigve and Shignapur-Chikhali roads.

The water level of Panchanganga river at Rajaram Bandhara in Kasba-Bavda, a suburb of the city, was recorded at 21.9 feet at 9 AM on Wednesday. The alert level is at 39 feet and danger level at 43 feet.

The highest rainfall of 98.1 mm was recorded in Gaganbavda, followed by Chandgad tehsil at 73.4 mm, Bhudargad 63.5 mm, Radhanagari 47.8 mm and Shahuwafmfi 47.2 mm.

The highest rainfall of 295 mm was recorded in the catchment area of Patgaon irrigation dam followed by Ghatprabha (252 mm) in the last 24 hours till 8 AM on Wednesday.
