Model Code of Conduct Enforced as Five States Gear Up for 2023 Assembly Elections

With the upcoming assembly elections scheduled in Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana, the Election Commission of India has activated the Model Code of Conduct, setting the stage for a series of crucial electoral battles. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the election dates for these states, marking the beginning of a significant political season.

Key Election Dates

The elections will be conducted on various dates in these states:

  1. Mizoram: November 7
  2. Chhattisgarh (Phase 1): November 7
  3. Chhattisgarh (Phase 2): November 17
  4. Madhya Pradesh: November 17
  5. Rajasthan: November 23
  6. Telangana: November 30

Election Schedule Details

  • Mizoram: Notifications to be issued on October 13, last date for nominations on October 20, scrutiny of nominations on October 21, and last date for withdrawal of candidatures on October 23.
  • Madhya Pradesh: Polling for all 230 assembly seats and the second phase of Chhattisgarh (70 seats) on November 17. Last date of filing nominations is October 30, scrutiny of nominations on October 31, and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures on November 2.
  • Rajasthan: Single-phase poll on November 23 for all 200 assembly seats. Last date for filing nominations is November 6, scrutiny of nominations on November 7, and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures on November 9.
  • Telangana: Polls on November 30, last date for filing nominations is November 10, scrutiny of nominations on November 13, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is November 15.
  • Chhattisgarh: Polling in two phases, with the counting of votes in all states on December 3.

Impressive Voter Turnout

The Election Commission reports a total of 16.14 crore voters in these five states. Mizoram has 8.52 lakh, Chhattisgarh 2.03 crore, Madhya Pradesh 5.6 crore, Rajasthan 5.25 crore, and Telangana 3.17 crore voters. Among them, 8.2 crore are male voters, and 7.8 crore are female voters.

Focus on First-Time and Persons with Disability Voters

Notably, there are 60.2 lakh first-time voters in these states, with Mizoram having 50,611, Chhattisgarh 7.23 lakh, Madhya Pradesh 22.36 lakh, Rajasthan 22.04 lakh, and Telangana 8.11 lakh first-time voters.

Moreover, 17.34 lakh Persons with Disabilities (PWD) voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots in these crucial elections.

The Election Commission has achieved 100% enrollment in Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups in four states: Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana, ensuring widespread participation in the democratic process.
