Ministry of Civil Aviation Applauds Airlines for 0.65% Cancellation Rate

The Indian domestic aviation industry has been witnessing a remarkable surge in passenger traffic throughout the first eight months of 2023. Recent data analysis reveals that domestic airlines have carried an impressive 1190.62 lakhs of passengers from January to August 2023, marking a substantial 38.27% increase compared to the same period last year.

August 2023, in particular, stood out with a significant monthly growth rate of 23.13%, witnessing passenger numbers soaring to 148.27 lakhs. This upward trajectory in passenger growth reflects the industry’s resilience and successful recovery from the challenges posed by the global pandemic.

Notably, despite the substantial growth in passenger traffic, the overall cancellation rate for scheduled domestic airlines in August 2023 remained remarkably low at just 0.65%. During this month, scheduled domestic airlines received a total of 288 passenger-related complaints, translating to an impressively low complaint rate of around 0.23 complaints per 10,000 passengers carried. These statistics underscore the industry’s unwavering commitment to prioritize customer satisfaction and offer reliable and efficient services to passengers.

Expressing his appreciation for the sector’s growth, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, lauded the collective efforts of airlines, airports, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation. He emphasized that this consistent growth serves as a testament to the dedication of all stakeholders in fostering a safe, efficient, and customer-centric aviation ecosystem. The aviation industry continues to uphold its commitment to ensuring passenger safety and comfort while adapting to evolving travel demands and regulations. As air travel continues its path to recovery, domestic airlines are poised to play a pivotal role in facilitating economic growth and connectivity across India.
