As the dawn of 2024 approaches, the Central Government of India has released an extensive list of holidays that will mark the nation’s calendar throughout the year. This compilation, which includes a diverse range of public holidays, reflects the rich tapestry of cultural, nationalistic, and religious observances, catering to the mosaic of traditions and beliefs across the country.
According to the Office Memorandum issued on July 3, 2023, Central Government Administrative Offices in Delhi/New Delhi are slated to observe a total of approximately 17 gazetted holidays in 2024. Complementing these are a select number of restricted holidays, providing individuals with the flexibility to customize their schedules and commemorate various events and festivities.
Gazetted Holidays of 2024: The term “gazetted holiday” signifies a day formally declared by the government and published in the official gazette. These holidays are universally recognized and honored by the government and public institutions nationwide, carrying the distinction of being considered national holidays.
This diverse list of holidays serves as a guide for citizens to plan their engagements and activities throughout the year, taking into account these significant occasions that hold cultural, historical, and religious importance.

In major regions of India, along with other state holidays, over thirty great festivals are observed. States have regional celebrations based on the language and religious populations that predominate there.
