India Achieves Milestone: Over 95,000 Kilometers of National Highways Built in the Last Decade

In a remarkable feat, the Ministry of Road and Transport Highways (MoRTH) has announced the successful construction of approximately 92,000 kilometers of National Highways in the past nine and a half years. This extensive road network is set to reach a cumulative distance of over 95,000 kilometers by the end of the upcoming month, marking a major boost to India’s infrastructural development.

The Ministry has taken a proactive stance in addressing safety concerns on the National Highways, identifying and earmarking black spots for comprehensive development and elimination by the close of March 2025. This strategic initiative aims to enhance road safety and eliminate potential hazards, contributing to the overall well-being of commuters.

Anurag Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Road and Transport Highways, highlighted the transformative approach adopted by the Ministry in planning and development. Utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Ministry envisions high-speed corridors designed to meet the future transportation needs of a growing population for the next 50 years. This forward-thinking approach was disclosed at an event hosted by the International Road Federation.

As the landscape of road development evolves, the roles of infrastructure planners, designers, and planners are rapidly changing. The need to adapt to new digital tools, technologies, and Indian Transport Systems (ITS) is crucial for professionals in the field.

With road development being a significant infrastructural investment in India, the emphasis on proper maintenance and convenient connectivity is imperative, especially given the substantial number of commuters traversing the National Highways.
