Concerns over synthetic colors and hygiene have triggered these measures, leading to FDA raids on stalls to curtail the prevalence of the popular fusion dish.
Gobi Manchurian, featuring cauliflower florets coated in a fiery red sauce, has enjoyed widespread popularity among food enthusiasts. The origins of Gobi Manchurian can be traced back to its non-vegetarian counterpart, chicken Manchurian, credited to Mumbai’s Chinese culinary pioneer, Nelson Wang. In the 1970s, Wang is said to have invented chicken Manchurian while catering at the Cricket Club of India. The dish typically features deep-fried chicken nuggets in a spicy cornflour batter, served either dry or in a tangy gravy made with soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and occasionally tomato sauce.
