Samsung Galaxy S24: The Best-Selling AI Phone in Q1 2024

Earlier this year, Samsung introduced its highly anticipated Galaxy S24 series, featuring advanced Galaxy AI technology. Recently, Counterpoint Research released a study highlighting that the Galaxy S24 series was the top-selling AI phone in the first quarter of 2024.

Dominance in the GenAI Market

According to Counterpoint’s report, the Galaxy S24 series made a significant impact on the GenAI-capable smartphone market during Q1 2024. GenAI-capable smartphones, which integrate advanced generative AI features, accounted for 6% of global smartphone sales in this period. The report underscores the Galaxy S24 series’ dominance, with the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra emerging as the world’s best-selling Generative AI-capable phone, securing a 30% market share. The success of the Galaxy S24 Ultra can be attributed to its innovative AI capabilities and Samsung’s robust marketing strategies.

Galaxy S24 Series Variants Performance

The Galaxy S24 series includes the S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra. All three variants have performed exceptionally well in the market. Samsung’s aggressive marketing campaign, which emphasizes the unique features of Galaxy AI, played a pivotal role in driving sales across the entire lineup. The campaign’s focus on the practical applications and benefits of AI in everyday use has resonated well with consumers, further boosting the series’ popularity.

Competition from Chinese Brands

In addition to Samsung’s success, the report from Counterpoint Research also highlights the performance of other brands in the GenAI-capable smartphone market. Xiaomi’s 14 series and vivo’s X100 models secured the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, in the top-10 list of best-selling AI phones. Chinese brands collectively captured six spots in the top-10, reflecting their growing presence and influence in the market.

The increased presence of Chinese brands is largely due to their aggressive integration of Generative AI features. These features include AI-generated portraits, AI eraser tools, and robust offline virtual assistants, which have attracted a significant number of consumers.

Future Outlook

Counterpoint Research anticipates that GenAI-capable smartphones will continue to grow in popularity, contributing 11% to the overall smartphone market by the end of 2024. This projection underscores the increasing importance of AI features in driving consumer preferences and shaping the future of the smartphone industry.
