Relief for Pune Teachers as School Education Minister Announces End to Headquarters Stay Condition

In a significant announcement, School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar has declared the permanent revocation of the headquarters stay condition for primary teachers, bringing relief to thousands of educators in the district. The announcement was made during an online session of the Primary Teachers’ Union, where approximately 3,000 teachers participated. The move garnered enthusiasm and approval from the teaching community.

The event witnessed the presence of MP Sujay Vikhe Patil, state leader Sambhaji Thorat, and other influential figures. Minister Kesarkar assured teachers, stating, “I will address the demands of the Primary Teachers’ Union. Teachers need not worry about the condition of staying in headquarters. No one will face a problem. A decision regarding the MSCIT exam will also be made. There will be no salary deduction for teachers who do not take this exam.”

Sachin Patil, a teacher representative, welcomed the minister’s announcement and noted that political pressure from BJP MLA Prashant Bamb played a role in influencing the decision. Protests by teachers across the state followed the initial announcement of the headquarters stay condition. Patil emphasized the need for the government to trust educators and reconsider policies that cause both physical and mental harassment.

Expressing gratitude for the decision on behalf of female educators, Tejswini Sonwane, a school teacher, highlighted the challenges posed by the headquarters stay condition. She urged a reconsideration of the transfer policy to allow spouses who are both teachers to be relocated within the same taluka for greater convenience.
