Amidst Speculations and Alliances, NCP-SP Holds Back Announcement of Candidate
As the political landscape evolves ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, veteran leader Sharad Pawar is adopting a wait-and-watch approach for the crucial Madha constituency, refraining from announcing a candidate until key developments unfold.
Speculations have been rife regarding Dhairyashil Mohite Patil’s potential shift from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) alliance. However, with Mohite Patil’s decision still pending, Pawar and his party leaders have refrained from making any official announcements.
The political dynamics in Madha have been further complicated by Vijaysingh Mohite Patil’s previous departure from the NCP to join the BJP before the 2019 general elections. With Mohite Patil family expressing interest in rejoining the NCP fold after denial of a ticket in 2024, the constituency’s political landscape remains fluid.
The BJP’s decision to field Ranjitsinh Naik Nimbalkar as its candidate has stirred discontent among local leaders, including allies, signaling potential shifts in electoral alliances and loyalties. Efforts are underway within the BJP to persuade Vijaysinh Mohite Patil to remain aligned with the party, given his familial ties to Dhairyashil Patil.
Furthermore, Mahadev Jankar’s recent alliance with the Mahayuti coalition has posed challenges for the NCP-SP alliance in identifying the right candidate for the Madha constituency.
In response to these developments, the NCP (SP) is considering Abhay Singh Jagtap, a prominent figure suggested by local NCP units in Solapur and Satara districts. Jagtap’s background in computer engineering and notable contributions during the pandemic have garnered attention, positioning him as a potential candidate for the upcoming elections.
