Maharashtra Plans ‘Pre-school Readiness Campaign’ for Incoming First Graders

State Education Department Rolls Out Training Initiative for Teachers, Anganwadi Workers, and Volunteers

The Maharashtra State School Education Department is gearing up to launch a comprehensive ‘pre-school readiness campaign’ for children set to enter Class 1 in the upcoming academic year 2024-25. This initiative aims to ensure that young learners are adequately prepared for the transition to formal schooling. To facilitate the success of this campaign, the department has issued directives for the active involvement of teachers, Anganwadi workers, and volunteers.

According to information shared by the state education department, a one-day training program will be conducted at both state and district levels as part of the campaign. Participants’ names for district-level training will be solicited through a designated link, with training sessions scheduled to take place online via Zoom from 10 am to 2 pm. The training links will be shared separately through WhatsApp groups.

Kiran Pande, State Deputy Education Officer, outlined the logistics of the training, stating, “District-level one-day training will be organized by the principal of DIET (District Institute of Education and Training) in accordance with the schedule. Similarly, taluka-level training will be coordinated by DIET principals in collaboration with group education officers and child development project officers. Expert guides and facilitators trained at the district level will oversee the taluka-level training sessions.”

Furthermore, a central-level education conference is slated for April 13, 2024, where individuals trained at the taluka level will serve as facilitators. Pande emphasized the importance of effective communication and planning at all levels to ensure the smooth execution of the campaign.

In addition to training sessions, directives have been issued for the organization of school-level meetings during regular school hours. These meetings, lasting approximately four hours, will focus on fostering a conducive learning environment and promoting parental involvement in their children’s education. The education department underscores the significance of cleanliness in school premises and encourages the participation of all eligible Class 1 students and their parents in these meetings.

As Maharashtra prepares to launch this pre-school readiness campaign, stakeholders are committed to providing young learners with the necessary support and resources to embark on their educational journey with confidence and enthusiasm.
