Maharashtra Government Reverts to Offline Mode for TET Exams in April/May 2024

In a significant shift from the initial plan to conduct the Teaching Eligibility Test (TET) online for the first time, the Maharashtra State Examination Council has received directives from the State government to revert to the traditional offline mode. The TET exam, crucial for aspiring teachers in the state, is now scheduled to take place in April or May of 2024, requiring candidates to prepare for the examination in an offline format.

The decision to switch to offline mode comes despite the prevailing trend of conducting the majority of exams in the state online. The examination committee, citing various reasons, concluded that the TET exam should be administered offline, posing a new challenge for candidates preparing for the test.

The TET exam holds significant importance as the state grapples with a considerable number of teacher vacancies. However, the exam, recommended to be held twice a year, faces constraints leading to infrequent occurrences.

A senior education official, speaking anonymously, expressed concerns over the decision, stating, “Given the previous scams in the TET exam, it is feasible to release the results of this exam early by taking it online. Due to the offline exam, it will take a long time to announce the results. This will give time for interested students to study for the exam.”

The move to conduct the TET exam offline has sparked discussions within educational circles, with some expressing reservations about the potential delay in result announcements and its impact on candidates’ preparation.

As the Maharashtra government takes this unprecedented step, candidates are urged to adapt their study plans accordingly to excel in the offline TET examination scheduled for April/May 2024.
