Lonavala’s Tiger & Lion’s Point Set for Adventure Makeover with INR 333 Crore Investment

In a significant move, the Maharashtra state government has given the green light to a proposal amounting to INR 333 crores 56 lakh for the development of adventure sports facilities at the renowned Tiger’s Point and Lion’s Point tourist spots near Kurwande village in the taluka near Maval, Lonavala. The sanctioned funds are set to transform these locations into vibrant hubs for adventure sports, light and sound shows, and various other recreational activities.

According to Ramdas Jagtap, Deputy Collector of PMRDA (Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority), the development of these tourist destinations will gain momentum, with the aim of completing the project within three years.

The project’s planning phase spanned two to three years, involving collaboration with the forest department of the district administration. The proposed development will utilize about 15 hectares of land from the forest department, with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) taking on the responsibility for the project.

Key Developments at Tiger Point:

  1. Glass SkyWalk: A 125-meter-long and 6-meter-wide glass SkyWalk.
  2. Amphitheater: Equipped with a capacity to accommodate one thousand persons.
  3. Light and Sound Show: A captivating multimedia experience for visitors.
  4. Children’s Play Area: A dedicated space for young visitors.
  5. Parking Facilities: Capacity for 1500 four-wheelers and 2000 two-wheelers.
  6. Gazebos: 24 gazebos covering an area of 20 square meters each.

Proposed Developments at Lion’s Point:

  1. Food Park Building: Featuring souvenir shops, an administrative building, rooftop, viewing deck, etc.
  2. Parking Facilities: Space for 300 four-wheelers and 250 two-wheelers.
  3. Gazebos: 12 gazebos covering an area of 20 square meters each.

The development plan is contingent on securing at least 15 hectares of land, including road access. Pune Guardian Minister and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar convened a meeting in September 2023, issuing instructions to the PMRDA for the development of these tourist spots. Subsequently, the PMRDA prepared a comprehensive development plan based on these instructions.
