Beyond Books: Pune Parents Secure World Record, Reading Stories to Children

In a heartwarming display of literary enthusiasm, Pune witnessed over 3,066 parents participating in the ‘Parents Reading out Stories To Their Children’ activity on Thursday morning (December 14), setting a new world record for continuous reading to children. The event, held on the S P College grounds, served as a precursor to the upcoming Pune Book Festival, organized by the National Book Trust, scheduled to take place at Fergusson College from December 16 to December 24.

The participating parents, breaking the Chinese record for reading stories to children, read stories for four minutes continuously, establishing a new milestone in fostering a love for reading among children. The achievement was announced by officials from the Guinness Book of Records, solidifying India’s name in the global literary arena.

Key dignitaries and personalities, including PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar, PMC Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakane, and actress Prajakta Mali, graced the occasion, extending their support to the noteworthy initiative.

The Pune Book Festival, set to kick off on December 16, is anticipated to draw an even larger audience, fueled by the success and enthusiasm generated by the world record-setting event. The festival promises a rich literary experience with a diverse range of books and activities for readers of all ages.
