Internet Suspended in Satara After Communal Clashes: Police Urge Citizens to Uphold Law and Order

Communal tensions flared up in Pusesavali village, situated in the Khatav taluka of Satara, on Sunday night, triggered by an alleged objectionable post on social media. The incident resulted in multiple houses being set ablaze and one individual suffering critical injuries. In response to the unrest, the local administration took precautionary measures by suspending internet services and issued an appeal to the public, urging them not to succumb to rumors.

According to official reports, the incident unfolded at approximately 9:30 pm on Saturday when a religious site was pelted with stones by a group of individuals from a specific community. In an effort to maintain law and order in the region, the district administration has invoked Section 144, which restricts the assembly of people, and has warned of severe action against those involved in acts of violence.

The Satara Police have used their social media platforms to implore citizens not to give in to rumors during tense situations and refrain from posting messages that could potentially incite further clashes and disrupt public order. They have encouraged the public to promptly report any untoward incidents occurring in their vicinity to the police and local authorities.

The police have registered a case against more than 100 individuals under Sections 295 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertain to offenses related to religion and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention, respectively. The situation remains under close scrutiny as authorities work to restore peace and harmony in the area.
