As the cornerstone of democracy, the act of voting demands diligence and preparation to ensure every citizen’s voice is heard. Here’s a step-by-step guide to navigating the voting process seamlessly:

1. Preparation: Approach the voting booth with a sense of purpose, ready to exercise your democratic right.

2. Verification:

  • Locate your name in the voter register and sign in acknowledgment of your presence.
  • Ensure your finger is marked with indelible ink to prevent multiple voting attempts.

3. Equipment Check:

  • Confirm that the booth unit is powered on. If not, promptly notify the presiding officer.
  • Upon entering the booth area, verify the functionality of the voting machine indicated by a green light.

4. Candidate Selection:

  • Press the blue button opposite the name or symbol of your chosen candidate. A red light will flash to confirm your selection.
  • Verify the symbol displayed on the screen to ensure accuracy.

5. Ballot Verification:

  • Wait for your ballot paper to be printed by the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) printer.
  • Check the serial number, name, and symbol to ensure alignment with your chosen candidate.
  • Verify the printed ballot within the allotted 7 seconds to confirm accuracy.

6. Issue Resolution:

  • In case of any discrepancy, remain in the booth and promptly report the issue.
  • You will be provided with Form 17 (c) to sign, followed by further action.

7. Ballot Submission:

  • Once satisfied with your selection, deposit the printed ballot into the VVPAT drop box. A beep will confirm the completion of the voting process.

Alternative Identification Methods:

  • If you don’t possess an Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC), also known as a voter ID card, alternative methods are available:
    • Passport
    • Driving license
    • Service identity card of the state or central government
    • PAN card
    • Aadhar card
    • Passbook with photograph issued by a bank or post office
    • MGNREGA job card
    • Smart card issued by RGI under NPR
    • Health insurance smart card issued under the Ministry of Labour scheme
    • Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs, etc.
    • Pension documents with a photograph
    • Address card with a photo issued by the Department of Posts, Government of India

By adhering to these steps and being well-informed, every voter can contribute meaningfully to the democratic process, ensuring fair and transparent elections.
