Lua’s Parade Debut: A Tale of Hope and Love at the 2024 Rose Parade

As the 2024 Rose Parade prepares to showcase a myriad of creatively adorned floats, one particular masterpiece takes center stage, telling a heartwarming tale of love and resilience. The “Feed the Love” float, a collaborative effort by Pasadena Humane and Hill’s Pet Nutrition, introduces Lua, a 6-year-old purebred pit bull, as its star, captivating audiences and conveying a powerful message about compassion and responsible pet ownership.

Lua, with her wagging tail and perky ears, personifies joy and hope, serving as a symbol for shelter animals worldwide. The float not only features dozens of pets but also emphasizes the significance of adoption and the loving care that every pet deserves.

Describing Lua as a “love bug,” Kevin McManus, the communications manager for Pasadena Humane, shares her simple pleasures—snuggling, giving kisses, and playing with toys. Lua’s journey, reflective of the experiences of many shelter animals, began with an initial adoption in 2022. Despite unforeseen circumstances leading to her return to the shelter, Lua remains optimistic about finding her forever home.

Dia DuVernet, President & CEO of Pasadena Humane, sheds light on the challenges faced by pet owners, including housing insecurity and financial difficulties, making it difficult for individuals to keep their beloved pets. Despite being labeled a “good girl” by her foster family and showcasing impeccable house training and leash manners, Lua is still in search of a permanent home.

Volunteers and shelter staff express unwavering confidence that Lua’s friendly nature and endearing personality will charm parade-goers, making her a standout on the grand stage of the Rose Parade.
