Pimpri: As many as 322 people were fined for drunk driving on New Year’s Eve. The action was taken by the Pimpri Chinchwad Police.
Citizens stepped out to welcome New Year and arranged parties at various places. There were crowds in malls and market places. Therefore, the police beefed up security from the evening of December 31. As many as 2,500 policemen were deployed in the twin towns. CP Vinay Kumar Choubey was reviewing the situation constantly. Local police stations and squads of Crime Branch were also patrolling the streets. Nakabandi operations were undertaken at 40 spots in the industrial township and vehicles were being checked. The police acted against unruly revellers. Action was also taken for causing noise pollution.
Traffic Police act
Police personnel and officials of the Traffic Division of Pimpri-Chinchwad checked vehicles on highways and internal roads at various places. Those who were found drunk had to pay a fine.
Checking at hotels, dhabas
As many as 473 hotels and dhabas within the limits of the Police Commissionerate were examined. Action was taken for violating rules.
Criminals on police records were checked
Criminals on police record and suspects booked in various cases were examined. As many as 415 suspects were examined on Sunday.
Watch on suspect vehicles
Suspicious vehicles were checked during Nakabandi. As many as 2,425 vehicles were checked on Sunday within the jurisdiction of the Police Commissionerate. Over Rs 20.60 lakh was recovered in fines from commuters violating traffic rules.
Busting illegal activities
A gambling den was being run to ‘celebrate’ New Year. The police busted it after learning about it. They also took action against illicit liquor manufacturing and sale. Action was taken against five bootleggers. Valuables worth over Rs 2.09 lakh were confiscated.
