In an unconventional move that has garnered attention on social media, a Chinese family of eight has opted for an extended stay in a luxury hotel, deeming it more cost-effective than maintaining a traditional home. The family, residing in the city of Nanyang in the central province of Henan, pays a daily rate of 1,000 yuan (approximately Rs 11,000) for their accommodations.
The decision to move into a hotel was made last year, and a recent viral video showcases the family in their suite, complete with a living room and two twin rooms. The room, inclusive of all amenities, utilities, and services, provides a hassle-free living experience, eliminating additional costs for electricity, water, parking, or heating.
Mu Xue, a member of the family, mentioned in the video, “Today is the 229th day of our stay at the hotel. The room costs 1,000 yuan per day. Our family of eight live very well,” highlighting the special rate offered by the hotel for their long-term stay. The family expresses contentment with the arrangement and plans to continue living in a hotel indefinitely.
While the exact cost of living in an apartment in Nanyang is not specified, the family believes they are achieving significant savings compared to the expenses associated with a traditional home. In megacities like Shanghai, a two-bedroom apartment can cost up to 20,000 yuan per month, excluding additional charges for utilities. The family, paying an all-inclusive rate of 30,000 yuan a month for hotel living, sees it as a practical and economical choice.
In a follow-up video, Mu clarifies that the family is financially well-off, owning six properties. Despite their financial stability, they find the hotel lifestyle convenient and plan to embrace it for the long term.
