GeM Portal Unveiled: A Blueprint for MSMEs to Secure Government Contracts

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has become a game-changer for businesses, recently surpassing the Rs 2 lakh crore order value mark. For Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) seeking to tap into this vast market, the Udyam registration portal provides a seamless gateway. In this article, we’ll guide you through the step-by-step process of registering on the GeM portal via Udyam.

The One-Time Exercise: Udyam Registration

To initiate the process, visit udyamregistration.gov.in and click on ‘For new entrepreneurs who are not registered yet as MSME or those with EM-II’. If you’re transitioning from UAM, click on ‘For those already having registration as UAM’.

Aadhaar Verification and Organization Details

Enter your Aadhaar number and name as per Aadhaar for verification. For different types of organizations, specific Aadhaar details are required:

  • Proprietorship: Proprietor’s Aadhaar
  • Partnership: Managing partner’s Aadhaar
  • HUF: Karta’s Aadhaar
  • LLP, Cooperative Society, Society, Trust: Authorised signatory’s GSTIN, PAN, and Aadhaar

Form Submission and GeM Registration

After Aadhaar verification, select your ‘type of organisation’ and proceed with PAN verification. Click on Continue to access a detailed form with 27 pointers. At point number 22, express your interest in getting registered on the GeM Portal. Simultaneous registration on other MSME government portals is also possible.

Final Steps and Confirmation

Fill the entire form and click on ‘Submit and Get Final OTP’. A ‘Thank You’ message, along with your Udyam registration number, will be sent to your mobile number and email ID upon successful registration. The certificate, complete with a QR Code, will be shared via email.

GeM Registration Separately

If you opt for separate GeM registration, ensure you have a mobile number linked to your Aadhaar and a NIC registered email ID.
