Pune : In a heartening display of solidarity in the fight against cancer, Ruby Hall Clinic, in collaboration with the Oncology Group of Pune (OGP) and UMEED, organized the Umeed KiRun marathon on Sunday. The event, featuring categories ranging from 1 km to 10 km, unfolded at the B. J. Medical ground in Pune.

Aligned with World Cancer Day, the marathon was orchestrated with the collective efforts of OGP, a dedicated group of oncology doctors, Free Runners, and B. J. Medical College, a prestigious institution in the realm of medical education.

The distinguished chief guests for the marathon included Shivani Charak, a remarkable athlete who triumphed over ovarian cancer at the age of nine. Charak has since excelled in sports climbing, clinching three gold medals, two silver medals, and a bronze from national-level events, and earning accolades on the international stage. Another inspiring guest was 12-year-old Prathmesh Sinha, who, despite facing a brain tumor twice, emerged as a motivational speaker and participant in Shark Tank India’s first season, receiving praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Digital India Week.

Motivational speaker Poorva Sumit Gadiya, a breast cancer survivor, shared her journey of overcoming cancer in 2016 and subsequently founding the #ilovemybreasts campaign for breast cancer awareness.

The Umeed KiRun marathon witnessed a significant turnout, with participants from diverse backgrounds joining forces to show support for those battling or having battled cancer.
