Residents of Kalyani Nagar Demand Urgent Action as Deplorable Footpaths Pose Health Risks

Residents of Kalyani Nagar in Pune are raising their voices against the dismal state of footpaths along South Avenue, highlighting the dire need for immediate action to address the hazardous conditions plaguing their neighborhood.

Nishit Kamath, a concerned resident, expressed dismay over the sight of furniture-related debris strewn across the newly constructed pavement, despite its recent completion. The accumulation of trash patches further exacerbates the situation, with frequent incidents of garbage fires posing risks to public health and safety.

Jaffar Iqbal echoed Kamath’s sentiments, emphasizing the prolonged delay in completing footpath construction, which has left debris littering the area and impeding pedestrian movement. Despite repeated complaints to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), residents lament the lack of tangible progress in resolving the issue.

Monica S underscored the unacceptable conditions prevailing on South Avenue, citing concerns about the spread of diseases like leptospirosis and dengue in unsanitary environments. The absence of adequate street lighting compounds the safety hazards, heightening the urgency for PMC intervention to ensure a clean and secure living environment for all residents.

Manohar Mali, a Junior Engineer from PMC, acknowledged the challenges posed by debris accumulation during Metro-related construction work. While efforts have been made to address the issue, Mali assured residents that the PMC is actively coordinating with the Solid Waste Management department to expedite the removal of garbage from footpaths.

As residents await tangible improvements in footpath conditions, their collective appeals for swift action underscore the importance of municipal intervention in safeguarding public health and enhancing the quality of urban infrastructure.
