Bridging the Critical Care Divide: Spherule Foundation’s Initiative Breaks Barriers for Marginalized Groups

The collaboration between Spherule Foundation, CPR Group, and Mai Mangeshkar Hospital exemplifies the power of partnerships in breaking barriers and bridging the critical care gap for marginalized groups in India. By upgrading the ICU facilities at Mai Mangeshkar Hospital, this transformative initiative ensures that life-saving resources are available to those in need.

Access to quality critical care has been a persistent challenge for marginalized communities in India. The scarcity of ICU beds has been a significant hurdle, with less than 2.5 beds per 100,000 population. This scarcity often forces families into a distressing cycle of debt as they struggle to arrange funds for life-saving treatments. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Spherule Foundation and CPR Group have taken a proactive approach to address this issue.

Spherule Foundation, a renowned non-profit organization with a pan-India presence, is committed to making a positive impact across various sectors, including education, health, women empowerment, and the environment. With their extensive experience and expertise, the foundation has undertaken the “Strengthening Critical Care in India” initiative, in collaboration with CPR Group.

The initiative focuses on setting up or upgrading ICUs and NICUs in hospitals, specifically targeting low-income communities. To ensure maximum impact, Spherule Foundation follows a meticulous due diligence process in selecting hospitals to receive these units. The foundation implements a rigorous evaluation system, ensuring that the selected hospitals have the necessary capacity and capability to optimize the utilization of these units for the benefit of marginalized communities.

One such success story is the recent upgrade of the ICU unit at Mai Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune. This significant enhancement has increased the hospital’s ICU capacity to accommodate a total of 23 beds. The upgraded ICU unit was inaugurated on June 25th, 2023, and it represents a significant milestone in the hospital’s commitment to providing quality critical care to the marginalized.

The transformative project at Mai Mangeshkar Hospital was made possible through the generous support and partnership of exl Service.com Private Limited (EXL), as part of their commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR). The hospital’s medical director, Dr. Supriya Kurlekar, expressed her gratitude to EXL, Spherule Foundation, and the CPR Group for their support in this noble cause. She emphasized the pivotal role that the newly installed ICU setup would play in saving the lives of individuals in dire need.

Mai Mangeshkar Hospital, a part of the Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation, has long been dedicated to providing services to marginalized communities at affordable rates. Furthermore, the hospital extends free treatment to extremely needy individuals. Situated along the busy NH4 highway, it also serves as an emergency care center for trauma patients.

The collaborative efforts of Spherule Foundation, CPR Group, and Mai Mangeshkar Hospital exemplify the collective determination to break barriers and ensure that critical care reaches those who need it most. By upgrading ICU facilities and expanding access to life-saving treatments, this initiative paves the way for a more equitable healthcare system in India. It serves as an inspiring example of how partnerships can bridge the gap and bring hope to marginalized communities in their most vulnerable moments.
