In a startling incident, authorities have uncovered a case where ration rice was being illegally sold in open markets. The police recently seized two trucks and goods worth rupees 27 lakhs 62 thousand 312 at Urse Toll, Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
The incident unfolded when a truck was intercepted during a routine inspection while en route from Pune to Mumbai on Tuesday night around 12:30 am. It was discovered that the truck was transporting ration rice with the intention of selling it at inflated prices in the open markets. The rice was packed in polythene bags. As a result, the police confiscated two trucks valued at 18 lakhs and ration rice worth 9 lakhs 62 thousand.
A case has been registered at Shirgaon Police Station under Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act. The accused individuals in this case are Ashok Solaskar, Sachin Dhumal, Raju Kendra, Gaurav Sumbe, and a person identified only as Shah. Gaurav Sumbe was the owner of the ration rice. Further investigations into the matter are currently underway.
