BSNL’s Indigenous 5G Technology: A Step Towards Technological Sovereignty

In a significant stride towards bolstering India’s technological prowess and achieving self-reliance in the telecommunications sector, BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) is gearing up to unveil indigenous 5G technology, reaffirming its commitment to innovation and cutting-edge solutions. Anil Kumari Lahoti, Chairman of TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), has underscored the progress already underway in developing indigenous 5G technology, marking a monumental leap forward in India’s journey towards technological sovereignty.

Indigenous 4G Evolution

BSNL’s foray into indigenous 5G technology comes on the heels of its ambitious plans to deploy indigenous 4G infrastructure, setting the stage for a seamless transition to next-generation networks. Leveraging the expertise of C-DoT (Centre for Development of Telematics), BSNL aims to bridge the technological gap and position itself as a frontrunner in the telecommunications landscape. Despite initial setbacks with the 4G core developed by C-DoT, BSNL remains steadfast in its pursuit of indigenous solutions, driven by a vision of technological self-sufficiency.

Triumph of Indigenous Innovation

An ET report sheds light on the monumental strides taken by BSNL in harnessing indigenous technology for its 4G rollout. Anil Kumari Lahoti emphasizes the collaborative efforts between BSNL and the Indian industry, heralding the imminent success of indigenous 4G deployment across the nation. With plans to cover nearly one lakh sites, BSNL’s indigenous 4G network is poised to usher in a new era of connectivity, underpinned by homegrown technology and innovation.

High-Speed Networks for All

BSNL’s commitment to delivering high-speed networks extends beyond urban centers, with plans to deploy indigenous technology in one lakh sites across India. Tejas Networks, a key partner in this endeavor, is supplying the Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment, with over 10,000 sites already equipped and plans to deliver equipment for the remaining 90,000 sites in the coming quarters. This monumental effort underscores BSNL’s dedication to democratizing access to high-speed connectivity and bridging the digital divide.

Empowering Users with Indigenous Solutions

Niraj Verma, Administrator of the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), and Additional Secretary (T) of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), underscores the significant milestone achieved with the deployment of indigenous 4G stack, with one million users already benefiting from the cutting-edge technology. This success story not only highlights the efficacy of indigenous solutions but also underscores the transformative impact of technological innovation in empowering users and fostering inclusive growth.

As BSNL charts its course towards unveiling indigenous 5G technology, it not only cements its position as a trailblazer in the telecommunications domain but also paves the way for a future where India stands at the forefront of technological innovation and digital transformation. Through strategic partnerships, collaborative endeavors, and unwavering commitment to excellence, BSNL continues to redefine the contours of connectivity, driving progress and prosperity across the nation.
