Next-Gen Payments: ICICI Bank Pioneers UPI Integration with RuPay Credit Cards


In a groundbreaking development, ICICI Bank, a pioneer in India’s private sector banking, has introduced ‘Tagda Benefit,’ integrating UPI transactions with its RuPay credit cards. This transformative service, effective from December 1, 2023, ushers in a new era of convenience and flexibility for ICICI Bank customers, offering a seamless fusion of credit card advantages with the ease of UPI.

Expanding Digital Payment Horizons

Customers can now link their ICICI RuPay credit cards to any UPI app, including popular ones like PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm. This integration is poised to revolutionize transaction methods, providing users with a unique blend of credit card benefits while leveraging the simplicity of UPI payments.

Transaction Limitations: Person to Merchant Only

ICICI Bank’s guidelines stipulate that RuPay credit cardholders can exclusively engage in person-to-merchant transactions. This implies that the card is designed for purchases and cannot be used for transferring money to individuals.

How to Make UPI Payments with ICICI RuPay Credit Card?

To utilize an ICICI RuPay credit card for UPI payments, customers need to follow a simple process:

  1. Download the ICICI Bank iMobilePay app.
  2. Open the app and navigate to ‘UPI Payment.’
  3. Go to the ‘Manage’ tab.
  4. Select ‘My Profile’ and click on ‘Create New UPI ID.’
  5. Choose the RuPay credit card option.
  6. Follow the prompts to set up a PIN and commence transactions.

Other Banks Offering RuPay Credit Cards for UPI Transactions

In addition to ICICI Bank, customers of Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, SBI Card, HDFC Bank, Yes Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Punjab National Bank can also revel in the convenience of UPI transactions using their RuPay credit cards.
