ISHRAE Pune Chapter Sets a Green Benchmark: Achieves Carbon Neutrality for Green Conclave 2024

ISHRAE Pune Chapter proudly announces a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainability with the successful execution of a carbon-neutral event. The Green Conclave 2024, held in collaboration with NICMAR University Pune, stands as the first-ever carbon-neutral event organized by the chapter, securing Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) under Mahagony Plantation in India.

The event, graced by 750 professionals, including 200 students, witnessed meticulous planning to ensure minimal environmental impact. The following key initiatives contributed to the event’s carbon neutrality:

  1. Carbon Mapping: The entire emissions of the event were tracked through direct and indirect assessments.
  2. Energy Monitoring: VariouUs monitors were strategically placed to measure electricity consumption at vital locations.
  3. Registration Form Innovation: The registration form was designed to include informative questions aimed at tracking indirect emissions.
  4. Paperless Communication: Participants were engaged through a WhatsApp group to reduce paper, plastic, and excessive electronic usage.
  5. Green Transportation: Attendees were encouraged to carpool and use public transport.
  6. Own Bottle Campaign: Participants were urged to carry their water bottles to minimize plastic usage.
  7. Zero Plastic and Paper Waste: The event ensured no use of plastic, no wasteful paper, and avoided unnecessary prints.

To offset the total emissions of 5.57 tons of CO2 equivalent, the ISHRAE Pune Chapter procured Verified Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement (VERPA) remittance with VCUs (Carbon Credit). This significant achievement aligns with global sustainability goals and marks a proud moment for the chapter’s leadership and members.

Mr. Nandkishor Kotkar, President of ISHRAE Pune Chapter, expressed the chapter’s commitment to future carbon-neutral initiatives and acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the entire team.

This is a proud moment for the entire Pune Chapter under the leadership of President Mr Nandkishor Kotkar, President Elect Mr Ashutosh Joshi, Secretary Mr Subhash Khanade, Treasurer Mr Chetan Thakur, Convenor Mrs Anshul Gujarathi and Immediate Past President Mr. Virendra Borade.
