The 16th edition of Anifest India, the revered International Animation Festival, unfolded in Pune on February 10-11, 2024, showcasing a dynamic celebration of animation excellence and innovation. Hosted at the MIT-WPU, Kothrud Campus, the event witnessed two full days of immersive experiences, featuring 55 speakers, participants from 40+ design and animation schools, and a vibrant gathering of 1600 attendees.

The inaugural ceremony, graced by Rahul V Karad, Managing Trustee & Executive President of MAEER’s MIT Group of Institutions and Executive President of MIT World Peace University, highlighted the significance of community efforts in the animation domain. Karad commended TASI for its voluntary initiatives spanning over two decades.

Ranjit Singh ‘Tony’, Founder Trustee and Director of TASI Animation Association, underscored the unique nature of the organization, where every member contributes voluntarily. He emphasized that 100% of the funds raised for the festival are reinvested into the community. Anifest India stands as one of the five premier international animation festivals recognized by the Maharashtra Government.

The 16th edition witnessed several firsts, including its relocation outside Mumbai, a new format with multiple tracks running simultaneously, a dedicated portfolio review track, and the introduction of a specialized Student & Parent track for career guidance in the AVGC industry. The festival also introduced an exhibition stall section, and a drum circle marked the inauguration, involving 100 drums played in unison by attendees and dignitaries.

Renowned speakers, including Oscar-nominated directors and National Award-winning filmmakers, covered various tracks such as Filmmaking, Visual Effects, Gaming, Portfolio Reviews, and more. Live demonstrations and hands-on workshops provided practical insights into sculpting, storyboarding, and stop-motion animation. Virtual Production emerged as a highlight, and panel discussions explored topics like the Indie Animation movement, challenges for indigenous content creators, the impact of AI on the art world, and sustaining independent studios.

Anifest India continued its tradition of interactive sessions with dedicated time for Q&A, fostering engagement between the audience and speakers. The Ram Mohan Viewers’ Choice Awards, the sole animation award in the sub-continent where the audience votes for their favorite films, featured a streamlined electronic voting system this year. Leading companies showcased the latest technology products at exhibition stalls.
