NEET MDS 2024 Exam Rescheduling Under Scrutiny as RTI Reveals Ongoing Review

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has found itself in the midst of controversy as an RTI (Right to Information) response reveals that the request for the rescheduling of the NEET MDS 2024 exam is ‘Under Process.’ This revelation comes after the All India Students Union (ASIU) raised concerns about the postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Master in Dental Surgery (NEET MDS) from its initial date of February 9, 2024, to the new scheduled date of March 18, 2024.

The ASIU took to Twitter on February 20 to inform the public about the postponement and, subsequently, filed an RTI on February 8 seeking information on the reasons behind the rescheduling. The response received on Wednesday indicated that the representations made by the student union are currently ‘under process’ in the Ministry.

Highlighting the disparity in notice periods, the ASIU drew attention to the fact that NEET MDS candidates were notified of the exam delay two months in advance, while NEET PG candidates received a notice six months prior. Expressing concern over the mental health of NEET MDS candidates, ASIU has recommended aligning the NEET MDS schedule with NEET PG in July and has called for a reevaluation of the existing timetable.

Reports indicate that the delay in NEET MDS examinations has adversely affected the mental well-being of candidates, impeding their study plans. ASIU further emphasized worries that dental students may experience a prolonged break from March until the completion of their internships, lasting approximately 6-7 months, posing a hindrance to their academic progress.
