CME Pune Celebrates 80th Raising Day: A Legacy of Engineering Excellence

On September 28, 2023, the College of Military Engineering (CME) located in Dapodi, Pune, marked its historic 80th Raising Day, commemorating nearly a century of unwavering dedication to engineering excellence in defence training.

A Legacy of Excellence: The journey of the College of Military Engineering commenced with its establishment as a School of Military Engineering at Thomason College, Roorkee, on September 28, 1943. Subsequently, in 1948, it found its permanent home in Khadki, Pune. Over the years, this esteemed institution has had the honor of hosting eminent personalities, including the late Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the late President APJ Abdul Kalam, and the late President Pranab Mukherjee. The college previously celebrated its ‘Platinum Jubilee’ on September 28, 2018, marking 75 years of dedicated service.

A Vision of Excellence: The College of Military Engineering upholds a visionary mission: “To be the Premier Training Institution with state-of-the-art facilities for imparting the highest quality training in all relevant Engineering and Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear Protection (CBRNP) aspects to Defence forces.” This dedication to excellence has earned the college the prestigious General Officer Commanding in Chief, Army Training Command Unit citation twice, in 2015 and 2021, recognizing its outstanding contributions to Combat Engineering training.

Celebrating 80 Glorious Years: To commemorate this momentous occasion, Major General Vinayak Saini, Sena Medal, Officiating Commandant of CME, convened a Special Sainik Sammelan, a gathering of military personnel, at the college. During this event, he extended heartfelt appreciation to the college’s dedicated staff, recognizing their unwavering commitment to excellence. Major General Saini urged all members, both military and civilian, to reaffirm their dedication to their mission and adapt seamlessly to the ever-evolving technological landscape, ensuring that CME’s legacy of excellence endures.
