Clarity and Fairness: Age Limits Introduced for RTE Admissions in Private Schools

In a bid to bring clarity and fairness to the admission process under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, the Directorate of Primary Education has introduced specific age limits for different academic levels. The move aims to address the confusion among parents regarding admission criteria for the 25% reserved seats in private schools, ensuring equitable access to education in the academic year 2024-25.

This initiative is particularly designed to eliminate disadvantages for children born between July and November, providing a more balanced and inclusive approach to admissions.

For pre-primary admissions, children must be a minimum of three years old and a maximum of four years and five months by December 31, 2024. This age requirement is established to create a well-rounded entry point for children entering nursery and kindergarten.

In the case of primary admissions, children should be between five years and five months to seven years and five months old by the end of December 31, 2024, to be eligible for enrollment in the first standard. This emphasizes the importance of setting a proper framework to prevent disparities and ensure equal opportunities for all learners.

Sharad Gosavi, Director of Primary Education, highlighted that for the RTE 25% admissions in the academic year 2024-25, the age criteria will be a minimum of six years for the first level and a maximum of seven years five months.

By providing clear directives on age criteria, the Directorate of Primary Education aims to streamline the admission process and foster inclusivity in education, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to access quality learning environments regardless of their background or circumstances.
