Strengthening Bonds: Lt Gen AK Singh’s Mission for Nepal Domicile Gorkhas

In a significant diplomatic and welfare-focused visit, Lieutenant General AK Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-IN-C) Southern Command and President of the Gorkha Brigade, lauded the dedicated efforts aimed at addressing the concerns of Nepal Domicile Gorkhas during his seven-day visit to Nepal.

On 16th January 2024, Lt Gen Singh made his maiden visit to the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, where he engaged in discussions with Ambassador Naveen Srivastava on matters of mutual interest. The visit underscores the continued commitment of the Indian Army to foster strong ties with Nepal and address the welfare of the Gorkha community.

During his visit to the Defence Wing, Embassy of India, Kathmandu, Lt Gen Singh received updates from the Defence Attaché (DA), Nepal, on various issues affecting Nepal Domicile Gorkha veterans. Discussions covered areas such as pensions, welfare, the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), medical aspects, and documentation related to the veterans, their Next of Kin, and dependents.

A notable highlight of the visit was Lt Gen Singh’s interaction with veterans and their dependants at the Record Office Indian Embassy (ROIE) in Kathmandu. Expressing appreciation for the relentless efforts of the Defence Wing, he acknowledged their commitment to mitigating the challenges faced by Nepal Domicile Gorkhas and their dependants.

The visit signals a collaborative approach between the Indian Army and diplomatic representatives to address the unique needs and concerns of the Gorkha community residing in Nepal. Lt Gen AK Singh’s engagement reflects the importance placed on maintaining strong ties and ensuring the well-being of those who have served in the armed forces.

As Lt Gen AK Singh continues his visit, it is anticipated that further discussions and initiatives will be undertaken to enhance the support and welfare measures for Nepal Domicile Gorkhas and their families.
