Tragic Murder in Pune: Investigation Reveals Rejected Marriage Proposal as Motive for Darshana Pawar’s Death

The peaceful city of Pune was shaken by a heinous crime when the life of Darshana Pawar was brutally cut short. The Pune Rural police have been tirelessly working to unravel the mystery behind this tragic incident, and recent developments have shed light on the motive behind the murder.

Rahul Dattatraya Handore, a 28-year-old man, has emerged as the prime suspect in the case. According to the Pune Rural police, Handore allegedly killed Darshana Pawar because she rejected his marriage proposal. This shocking revelation has left the community in disbelief, as the victim and the accused were known to each other since childhood.

Their acquaintance dates back to the early years of their lives when Handore’s home stood opposite the house of Darshana’s maternal uncle. Over the years, they remained in touch even as they pursued their studies and prepared for civil services in Pune. However, it appears that Handore’s unrequited love for Darshana took a dark turn, ultimately leading to her untimely demise.

The events unfolded when Darshana, a promising young woman who had recently qualified for the Maharashtra forest services, was reported missing. The search for her came to a tragic end when her body was discovered at Rajgad Fort, a popular tourist and trekking spot in Pune. Her remains bore multiple injuries and were found in a partially decomposed state at the foothills of the fort, sending shockwaves through the community.

With circumstantial evidence pointing towards Handore’s involvement, the police intensified their efforts to locate him. He had fled the crime scene and had been incommunicado, making it challenging for the authorities to track him down. However, after an extensive search, Handore was apprehended at Mumbai’s Andheri railway station late on Wednesday. Subsequently, he confessed to the crime, providing crucial information to the investigators.

Handore, a science graduate who aspired to join the civil services, hailed from Sinnar taluka in Nashik district. He had been residing in Pune’s Karve Nagar, specifically in Hingane Home Colony. Darshana, on the other hand, was the daughter of a driver employed at a sugar mill in Ahmednagar. Her recent achievement of clearing the Maharashtra Public Service Commission exam for the post of Range Forest Officer (RFO) had brought her to Pune.

It was during her visit to Pune on June 9 to participate in a felicitation program organized by a civil services coaching academy that Darshana’s speech captivated many, subsequently going viral. Little did she know that her bright future would be tragically cut short, leaving her family and friends devastated.

Both Darshana and Handore were reported missing separately by their families, intensifying concerns about their well-being. The shocking turn of events has left the community grappling with sorrow and searching for answers.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police, Ankit Goyal, emphasized that further interrogation will be conducted to uncover the full sequence of events and determine the true motive behind this heinous act. The police are committed to delivering justice for Darshana Pawar and providing solace to her grieving loved ones.
