Tragedy Unfolds Near Khadakwasla Dam: Husband Murders Wife, Commits Suicide

In a tragic turn of events on Sunday evening, the serene surroundings near Khadakwasla Dam witnessed a horrific incident as a husband, identified as Somnath Sakharam Wagh, brutally murdered his wife, Suvarna Somnath Wagh, before taking his own life by hanging from a tree. The shocking incident unfolded behind the National Defence Academy (NDA) in the Peacock Bay area, leaving the community in disbelief.

Details of the Incident

The victims, Somnath Sakharam Wagh (53) and Suvarna Somnath Wagh (35), had left their Warje residence on a two-wheeler around 9:30 AM on Sunday. Their journey led them to the Peacock Bay area behind NDA, where they parked their bike by the road. However, the day took a gruesome turn as Somnath Wagh violently attacked his wife with a stone, leading to her tragic demise. Later, he hanged himself from a nearby tree using his track pants.

Police Response and Investigation

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam provided details, stating that an offence under section 302 IPC (Indian Penal Code) has been registered at Uttamnagar police station. The forest area near Kudje village, adjacent to Khadakwasla Dam, became the site of this horrifying incident. Suvarna, identified as Somnath’s second wife, fell victim to the assault with stones, while Somnath chose to end his own life.

Upon the couple’s failure to return home, their daughter and nephew initiated a search. The missing bike was eventually discovered in the Peacock Bay area, leading to the grim discovery of Suvarna’s lifeless body. Somnath’s lifeless body was found hanging nearby.

The Uttamnagar police, led by DCP Kadam, ACP Vasant Kunwar, and Senior Police Inspector Yusuf Shaikh, swiftly responded to the incident. Assistant Police Inspector Amrita Chaure, ASI Prasad Joshi, and other staff were also present at the scene.

Ongoing Investigation

As the community grapples with the shock of the incident, the police continue their investigation into the motive behind the brutal act. The bodies of Somnath and Suvarna have been sent for autopsy at Sasson hospital, with further inquiries underway.
