Temple Theft Crackdown: Pune Police Arrests Inter-District Gang

Pune: The Pune Rural local crime branch team has succeeded in arresting an inter-district gang along with its leader who were stealing from famous temples in the district. Around 32 cases have been registered against this gang at various places. God idol jewellery worth 4.5 lakhs have been seized from them.

On 5th August in Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple at Junnar village theft took place and during that silver god idol, silver ear and umbrella were stolen. The police have recovered all these items from the possession of the accused.

Goldsmiths Bhaskar Khema Pathve a resident of Nandur Dumala Sangamner, Somnath Shivaji Bhutambre a resident of Samsherpur in Akole and Rajendra Raghunath Kapile a resident of Sangamner were detained. The detained goldsmiths were buying the idol jewellery from the gang of thieves. The action was initiated on the instructions of rural superintendent of police Ankit Goyal under the guidance of local crime branch police inspector Avinash Shilimkar.
